WHY SERVICE YOUR BOILER?
Safety: One of the most important reasons for a boiler service is that it helps to keep you, and the people in your home, safe. Your boiler is a fuel-burning appliance. If the boiler becomes dirty, or faulty, it can release carbon monoxide which is poisonous. The problem with carbon monoxide is that the gas is tasteless, colourless and odourless which means it is hard to detect its presence and makes people unaware when they are being poisoned. It is therefore critical that you have your boiler serviced regularly. Servicing your boiler can give you peace of mind that you’re safe whilst highlighting any need for repairs before a broken boiler causes you to lose heating or hot water or worse, leaves you in danger.
Warranty: During your warranty or guarantee period (which could be up to 12 years) the manufacturers require you to have an annual service to keep the warranty or guarantee valid. While your boiler is under guarantee, if you do not have a service once in every 12 months then your warranty or guarantee could be invalid. If a problem occurs you’re likely to be liable to pay the full repair costs involved.
Faults: Chances are, if you’re not a trained and qualified heating engineer, you won’t know about a problem with your boiler until you come to turn it on and it fails. During a service, the heating engineer will be able to identify and fix any underlying problems before it’s too late. No matter how small the issue with your boiler, ignoring it could lead to a more serious problem which could be much more costly to repair or lead to a safety issue.
Lifespan: Primarily, the age and model of your boiler will determine how energy efficient it is; as your boiler gets older, it inevitably becomes less energy efficient. Replacing a boiler is costly, and so you want to ensure you get the most out of the investment. Maintaining a healthy, efficient boiler by regularly servicing it could help make it last much longer. Remember the average lifespan of a boiler is between 10 and 15 years, but with careful maintenance and regular servicing, it can reach this age and well beyond. We still maintain boilers that are over 40 years old and, although technology and reliability has moved on and efficiency has increased, it shows that with careful maintenance a boiler can last for decades.
REASONS TO CONSIDER SERVICING AND MAINTAINING YOUR BOILER
• Ideally get your boiler serviced in the warmer months (July, Aug, Sept) by a specialist technician in order to be prepared for the winter months
• A boiler service can improve the efficiency of your boiler by up to 15%
• A boiler service can keep you and your family safe as a qualified engineer can catch any leakages before they pose a serious risk
